Halo Armor: Wrist

With this post, I am beginning to make my new Halo armor cosplay and I decided to start with an easy part which is the wrist. This will cover all the steps I make and my ideas that I put into my own armor.

My first thoughts were "How do I start?". This question probably runs through many minds as you begin making a cosplay or whatever. I begun from the basics and asked some quick questions to myself. How does the armor fit and not slip off? How to make sure your clothes don't get in the way? How to make it tough, but comfortable?
It all makes a difference at the end.

I started with 2 things in mind. Making it fit you and make it comfortable. I want the armor to have layers where each does a specific function in the suit. The first layer has to be something that wraps around your wrist and it stays there at all times. It also must be easy to put on and off. I looked for something that could be used as a cylinder. My sight caught a packet if Pringles. I know it sounds weird, but it works. I cut it down the centre from both sides which gave me 2 identical part. The shape was still far off. Your wrist is thinner at your palm and thicker around your elbow.

I cut the 2 parts into a more triangle-like shape. This gave it a better shape and is now easy to put around your wrist. I also had to cut a bit off from the bottom length as my wrists are rather small. I then had to make it fit my wrist. I started to put the parts around my wrist and thinking how to make them stay at the point they are at. I simply needed straps. I first took 2 pieces of leather and stapled them at the top and bottom parts of 1 of the parts. I then stapled the other part. The other step was simply taking a piece of thin plastic/card and also staple them to one side of the pringle part, but only for one of them. On the other side, I put straps as well as on the tip of the plastic. I now have a basic shape to put around my wrist. It's comfortable, doesn't slip off and the clothes underneath, don't get in the way of whatever I do next when I put another layer on top.

I don't like the look though. I decided to wrap everything in duct tape to get rid of the evidence it was ever a Pringles packet. This method can be used for any cosplay armor as you can just build on top of it. Having the first layer to cover your clothing is in my opinion something that is necessary if you want it to be comfortable. This covers my first step in making the wrist for the armor.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask or give your own tips in case I missed important things

London EuroGamer 2012

Today has been a day that I shall remember. I visited Earl's Court Exhibition centre for one of the biggest game convention in London. Since I'm a weirdo, I cosplayed a Spartan from Halo and many thought it's pointless, but I got a lot of positiveness from people when I walked around. People took photos, gave me free stuff and allowed me to play a game on an epic huge screen. I lost though.

The food at the place could not be more expensive. I brought a small bottle of Sprite and a portion of chips which cost me almost 5 pounds. I was ultra hungry however and didn't have much choice. It was possibly the only let down of the day.

I got to play 2 matches of Halo 4. The 1st was Free-for-all and the person who played before me messed up the controls and I couldn't play at all. Came 4th in the end. The second game was team slayer and my team won with me being the MVP. The controls were set right that time. I also got to play some random PSVita games, Minecraft, The walking dead, PES 2013, Random racing games and more random games. The queues were long for some of these, but the wait was worth it.

I also got to meet Mater Chief in person. A 2 metre tall cosplayer dressed up as my favourite video game character. It was like a dream come true. I got some pictures taken as well as a video. I had a friend of mine record for me which I'm really glad for. I give him credit for that. With the photos/videos he recorded, I made a montage of what I saw during this day. The video can be viewed here --> London Eurogamer September 2012

The next convention I'm heading to is MCM expo on the 27th of October.

Halo all the Way

The story continues

About Halo:

Halo is a fiction world created by Bungie and is now taken over by 343 Industries. Halo tells a large scale story about a Human- Alien war. The aliens call themselves 'The Covenant' and are a huge threat that may lead to humanity's extinction. The 'Prophets' are the known leaders of Covenant and they lead the multiple Alien group who worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners. The story circles around Spartan 117 super soldier named John and an AI partner named Cortana. Currently being the only known surviving Spartan, John is present at the Forerunner shield world where he will begin his next adventure in the upcoming game released 6th of November, Halo 4

This blog is dedicated towards my love for Halo and such related. If you're reading this, then that means that just like me, you are a fan of Halo or I forced you to see it ^^. I will be posting a variety of things which include cosplay progress, videos, news and more things that will come to my head. Not every single thing I post will be directly related to Halo. Since this is a blog, I will be posting some things about me personally and perhaps create chat rooms or something to make this blog a bit more entertaining.

If I got you interested, please carry on reading!
I'm a huge cosplay freak so most of the things I post here will be my costumes that I create and the process of how I made them. The progress will of course be something like a tutorial for other people to try and making one of their own costumes, but it will cover how I do things personally and in what time period do I finish the suit.
For the video part, I am planning on making short live-action movies that will consist of a Spartan/s getting lost on an unknown planet and trying to find their way back to civilisation. Other than cosplay, I'm also planning to add props and the Covenant into the movie. So perhaps creating a few grunts out of card and maybe an Elite costume. The story is yet to be planned and no progress has been done so far.
I will start posting after this Sunday's Eurogamer in London.

Also if you think any of you friends or relatives might be interested in this blog, let them know about it. It will help me start growing and motivate me to do loads of work towards this blog =D
