My first thoughts were "How do I start?". This question probably runs through many minds as you begin making a cosplay or whatever. I begun from the basics and asked some quick questions to myself. How does the armor fit and not slip off? How to make sure your clothes don't get in the way? How to make it tough, but comfortable? It all makes a difference at the end.
I started with 2 things in mind. Making it fit you and make it comfortable. I want the armor to have layers where each does a specific function in the suit. The first layer has to be something that wraps around your wrist and it stays there at all times. It also must be easy to put on and off. I looked for something that could be used as a cylinder. My sight caught a packet if Pringles. I know it sounds weird, but it works. I cut it down the centre from both sides which gave me 2 identical part. The shape was still far off. Your wrist is thinner at your palm and thicker around your elbow.
I cut the 2 parts into a more triangle-like shape. This gave it a better shape and is now easy to put around your wrist. I also had to cut a bit off from the bottom length as my wrists are rather small. I then had to make it fit my wrist. I started to put the parts around my wrist and thinking how to make them stay at the point they are at. I simply needed straps. I first took 2 pieces of leather and stapled them at the top and bottom parts of 1 of the parts. I then stapled the other part. The other step was simply taking a piece of thin plastic/card and also staple them to one side of the pringle part, but only for one of them. On the other side, I put straps as well as on the tip of the plastic. I now have a basic shape to put around my wrist. It's comfortable, doesn't slip off and the clothes underneath, don't get in the way of whatever I do next when I put another layer on top.I don't like the look though. I decided to wrap everything in duct tape to get rid of the evidence it was ever a Pringles packet. This method can be used for any cosplay armor as you can just build on top of it. Having the first layer to cover your clothing is in my opinion something that is necessary if you want it to be comfortable. This covers my first step in making the wrist for the armor.
